Since 1989, BOKO has stood in the heart of Gevgelija — not a restaurant travellers merely pass through, but the one locals have chosen for their own celebrations for over three decades. It holds the top rating among Gevgelija's restaurants today, with guests returning again and again for a kitchen that treats traditional Macedonian flavours and Mediterranean technique as equally serious pursuits.

Inside, a gallery wall of botanical prints and playful animal portraits sets a warm, unpretentious tone against dark wood panelling, and the bar keeps a serious selection of wine and rakija close at hand. In the warmer months, the evening moves onto the covered terrace — heated and sheltered — where regulars linger long after the last course.

Every menu at BOKO still opens with a few lines signed by Boris Kostakev — “a story that lasts more than 36 years”. The promise in them has not changed since 1989: fresh ingredients, prepared by the house's own chefs, in a room where the aroma reaches the table before the plate does.
